Arkend

A small town in northern Valeryn, on the river Lareth. No one comes to Arkend on purpose. No one stays who has a choice.

Arkend is a wayfarers' town — roughly two thousand inhabitants, an old town wall that no longer keeps out much besides the wind, a market square, a smithy, a tavern. Caravans stop here overnight and move on the next morning. The town lives on farming, craft and the river trade on the Lareth.

It is the town where Kael Ardyn grew up. Here he drew his maps, here he lived alone after the death of his parents, here he found in his father's chest a map that showed eight points instead of seven. Here Edrin Thalos knocked at the door. Here a woman with a blade stood in his room.

On the night after the fragment struck, soldiers of the Light Priests set Arkend ablaze. They were searching for the map. They did not find it. Kael had already taken it. The fate of the inhabitants is unknown.

Arkend no longer exists.
